Pesticide Recertification

By attending the Pesticide Recertification workshop at the Northern Green Expo on Friday, January 8, you are completing the recertification requirements in categories A (Core) and E (Turf and Ornamental).  This workshop has been approved by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA). Licensed applicators with Categories A and E who last attended a recertification workshop in 2008, and new-licensed pesticide applicators in 2009, must attend an MDA-approved workshop in 2010. By attending of the Pesticide Recertification workshop and completing the on-site attendance documentation, applicators will obtain recertification credit.  In order for licensed applicators to get an additional Category F, Aquatics, they must attend the Thursday afternoon Aquatics Pesticide Recertification and the Friday Pesticide Recertification.

The morning and afternoon start with general sessions that are required for all recertifying applicators.  There are also breakout sessions where participants can choose sessions of interest.  Applicators must attend the entire program (3 general sessions plus 3 break-out sessions) to obtain recertification credit.  Attendance will be monitored.  Workshop participants must bring their license identification card to the workshop.

The MDA reserves the right to deny recertification credit to participants who arrive later than 30 minutes after the start of the program or who are absent during substantial portions of the program.

Applicators’ requirement to recertify every 2 years at an approved workshop is different from the annual pesticide applicator license renewal. Recertification must be completed before applicators can renew their licenses.  Applicators must renew their license before they can legally apply pesticides.

MDA mails out commercial and non-commercial 2010 pesticide applicator renewal applications in mid-December 2009.  Applicators can avoid delays by submitting completed license application forms as soon as possible.  Large volume of renewals in the spring increases the license processing time.  Applicators can renew on-line at MDA¹s website www.mda.state.mn.us and can contact MDA at 651-201-6615 with questions on recertification or license status. MDA's website contains additional information of interest to pesticide applicators.

ATTENTION: Everyone seeking Pesticide Recertification must report to the Main Auditorium by 7:30 a.m. All sessions are also open to attendees who are not seeking Pesticide Recertification, as space allows.
